What is page authority?
Page authority is a score from 0 to 100 that predicts how well one specific page could rank in search results. It's driven mostly by links: how many websites link to the page, how trustworthy and relevant those websites are, and how strong the page's own website is. Domain authority describes a whole website; page authority describes a single URL, so two pages on the same site can score very differently.
No authority score is used by Google directly. They are third-party predictions, useful for comparing your page with the pages that outrank it.
Where the score comes from
Semrush Authority Score
When Semrush link data is available, we show Semrush's Authority Score for the page and the domain, with backlinks and referring domains.
Moz Page Authority
When Moz data is connected, we show Moz Page Authority and Domain Authority, linking root domains and Spam Score, clearly labelled.
findseo estimate
Otherwise you get our findseo Authority Score (estimate), built from free domain popularity data and on-page checks. It isn't Moz Page Authority.
How to improve page authority
- 1Earn relevant linksCreate resources other sites want to cite: original data, tools, guides and expert commentary. Pitch them to relevant publications.
- 2Link internally from strong pagesPoint your homepage and popular articles at the page with descriptive anchor text. Internal links pass authority you already have.
- 3Keep it indexable and canonicalRemove accidental noindex tags, robots.txt blocks and canonicals that point elsewhere, so links count towards the right URL.
- 4Consolidate competing pagesMerge thin or duplicate pages and redirect them, so links and signals concentrate on one strong page.
- 5Make it the best answerPages that fully answer the query attract links naturally and keep visitors engaged.
- 6Fix technical basicsHTTPS, fast responses and clean redirects help search engines crawl the page and pass link equity efficiently.
Building authority takes time. Specialist link building agencies and technical SEO agencies can speed it up safely, or start with an SEO audit.

Frequently asked questions
What is page authority?
Page authority is a 0–100 score that predicts how well a single page could rank, based mainly on the links pointing to it and to its website. Page Authority (PA) is a metric created by Moz; Semrush uses its own Authority Score. Higher scores are harder to grow.
Is this the same as Moz Page Authority?
Only when the result says Moz Page Authority, which appears when Moz data is connected. Otherwise you see a Semrush Authority Score (when Semrush data is available) or our own findseo Authority Score (estimate), which is calculated differently and isn't Moz Page Authority.
How is the findseo Authority Score (estimate) calculated?
Up to 70 points come from how popular and well linked the domain is (the Tranco top-1M ranking and Open PageRank when available), adjusted for how deep the page sits on the site. Up to 30 points come from on-page signals that let a page use its authority: it loads, it's indexable, uses HTTPS, has a sensible canonical, title, description, enough content and internal links.
What is a good page authority score?
Scores are relative, so compare yourself with the pages that rank for your target keywords rather than an absolute number. As a rough guide, under 20 is low, 20–40 is developing, 40–60 is good and 60+ is strong.
How often are results updated?
Results are cached so repeated checks are instant: link data from Semrush or Moz is refreshed after 7 days, and estimate-only results after 24 hours.
How can I raise my page authority quickly?
There's no safe shortcut. Earn links from relevant, reputable sites, link to the page from your own strong pages, keep it indexable and fast, and make it the best answer for its topic. Avoid buying links, which can lead to penalties.
